I have two Johnson ’56 15 hp. motors and both have 203711 cranks in them which is an evinrude number. Was this crank a substitute for the 203657 that was called for in the parts manual or what?
October 9, 2021 at 9:38 am #247909I show both 203711 and 203657 being replaced by 204100.
204100 applying to FD-10, FDE-10, FD-10L, FD-10S and Fastwin 15014, 15015 from serial # 50001 & up, 15016 thru 15919October 9, 2021 at 1:13 pm #247911Thankyou, I never saw that number come up….very interesting.
October 9, 2021 at 7:36 pm #247918There were at least 3 types of lower seals used on the 15’s. Une type had a stainless steel sleeve on the bottom end of the crank, which promptly split and fell off. That type crank was replaced with one without the sleeve, for obvious reasons after replacing a load of powerheads.
October 10, 2021 at 8:48 am #247921I’ll stay clear of that one. Maybe that’s why both my Johnsons had an Evinrude crank. They may have been victims to that seal. Do you know the number of the crank in question ?

October 10, 2021 at 11:51 am #247923My ’56 Evinrude and Johnson 15 horse parts manuals both show P/N 277594 for the cranks although the Evinrude manual describes it as ‘crankshaft with sleeve’ while the Johnson manual describes it as just ‘crankshaft’.. My superceded parts number manual shows the original P/N 277594 superceding to 203657 and 307659. I can’t find any reference to P/N’s 203711 or 204100 anywhere.

October 10, 2021 at 12:04 pm #247929I found the part number 204100 listed in the Johnson Common Parts Guide.
