I probably already know the answer to this but I’ll put it out there anyway .
I was cleaning the Speedy up a bit and noticed some cracks forming on the rope plate at the screw holes .. I had purchased this plate off of eBay a while back because the plate I had was just a plain Jane plate ..
Can the cracks be fixed or is it toast ?
I guess until I find a replacement I’ll use Plain Jane while running it and put the other one on just when showing ..
If it could be welded would that throw the balance off enough to worry about ?

I wouldn’t think finding a replacement would be difficult if you
        decided to do so.

          Hi Sam,

As Brooke said, there are plenty of rope plates out there. That plate was used on both the Speeditwin and SpeediFour and Big Four. I had a bunch of them before I sold my property. Contact Matt Penn in Florida. Listed in the directory.

Pre-WW-II cast aluminum has impurities that
make welding it difficult. You could open it
up from the back side, not going through to the
surface, and use the aluminum brazing rod but it
won’t flow through so the remains of the crack
              would still be visible.
Switching them out when you want to run it is
probably the best option till you find a good
              replacement.
