Putting back together and I have a o ring missing from upper shaft where it connects to block. How pertinent is it to have?

It won’t hurt the driveshaft, it’s stainless steel. HOWEVER, the crankshaft is not and it will rust just looking at it. The "O" ring is supposed to stop that, keeping the water out and the coat of grease in. If it fails, the rust will make it very hard to remove the shaft. Then as the splines rust away, the motor no longer propels the boat. . . 😮

You can probably find a replacement at a well-stocked hardware store.

I have some orings that will fit. I am just not sure if I need a special one to withstand the heat?

    Wow, looks really good!

I have never noticed drive shaft O-rings to be anything special…They just seem to be the black, Buna-N material.

I had some cheapo ones from harbor frieght and put one on there. I’ll find out after a few runs if it melts off haha.

The paint is body work isn’t a ten but that is fine with me. It is going to be put back to work.
