Hi All,
I have a 1925 Elto Rt that has original paint that looks great. I don’t think its even been apart. I can see that the pistons have some carbon build-up on them and wonder if I should take it all apart and clean everything up? What are the jug to the block gasket like? Metal? Where do I find them, or do I hammer out my own?
If you remove the cylinders and don’t replace
the gaskets with material of the same thickness
the exhaust manifold wont fit. Today’s oil will
do wonders to remove the carbon deposits from
the oil of the past. Also if you don’t install
the rings exactly as the are now they will be
no longer seated although I believe there are
pined and that shouldn’t be a problem.

I’d leave it as is and run it . I doubt that carbon will have any effect on it unless exhaust ports are really carboned up. Running it with todays oil could even help clear some of that out.
Thanks Guys. Yeah, I didn’t know if the head gaskets were something special. As far as the oil goes, can I use 2 stroke oil mix or use old fasion straight 30w? Maybe I’m being to annaul.
They didn’t have 2 cycle oil in 1925
but they do now and that what I use
in my Super Eltos. How about the gear
case. Have you cleaned it out and
filled it with fresh 105 or corn head
grease?
