I am working on my outboards in hopes that spring is just around the corner… I recently got a CD-12, that came with a spare lower end. Like any motor I work on, I like to order the parts that I plan to replace before I start unbolting. My parts catalog calls out a part number of 277181 for the impeller. That is the same number used in the 3 and 4 horse twins. [like a Sportwin or Ducktwin] . When I received the new impellers I installed one on a Sportwin . all went good. Before pulling the CD apart I tried the 227181 impeller on the driveshaft of the “spare” lower. It does not fit. The driveshaft is slightly larger in diameter . So does anyone know if the 227181 impeller is the correct one for the CD-12? Perhaps there is two different size driveshafts used in them? Thanks and Happy Holidays .

The 277181 was the original correct impeller but I know this was superseded to part #434424 which has an ID of 0.44″. Don’t know if that is any different than the previous 277181. I upgraded my CD-11 to the new kit #763758 with a different (plastic) impeller housing and a taller impeller but even that impeller has an ID of 0.44″. Not sure why yours doesn’t fit.

Sounds like your “spare” isn’t really a CD-xx. The TN-xx neutral clutch models use that slightly larger drive shaft.

Ok so,, I just measured the drive shaft on the spare lower, it reads 0.470 inches . I am thinking that Frank is correct [as usual] in saying this is from a TN. I am going to go ahead with the dismantling of the CD- 10 and hope that the impeller I have is the correct one. Thanks for the replies
