My CD skeg has a hole in it. Can I swap in any old Cd skeg, or was the original "matched", i.e. part of the same overall lower unit casting, when it was manufactured? Will the bearing bores match up without any problems? Trying to keep as much of the original motor as possible.

I was thinking of placing a WTB in the classifieds for just the skeg. There must be a member somewhere whose case is otherwise wiped out.

Yeah, you can swap them around as there’s enough slop in the screw holes for them to self align.

I would also check the bearing mount areas with a micrometer and make sure you don’t have too muck "out of roundness"
Generally though, it works out fine, because of the fact that the moving parts are not making contact on those surfaces. The bearings that sit in there are.

I know you are not supposed to, but I have done it quite a few times. Only once it didn’t work out.

I have boxes of skegs. You can have one for the cost of shipping if you want. Im in Canada though, so might not be such a great deal! Our Post Office is not cheap.
