Trying to ID which model or year Tecumseh power head
is on my little jet outboard.
I’d “guess” from the late 50’s or 60’s.
It has a tag that says
T-626-31A
From what I gather, it’s a type T-626 engine, but that’s of no help!
It’s a headless, small 2 cycle engine.
I’d like to find the correct parts manual for it as well.

That number’you gave is the one you would use to look up parts in the pp parts book. Visit a lawn mower shop that has been around forever.

Your motor sure looks similar to an early 50’s pre-Tecumseh Power Products AH-47 ( Horizontal-4.7 cubic inches) I have. Yours would be based on the V (Vertical) models.

Here’s an interesting read started by Mr Asa who seems to have the same motor. Also try Googling that number you posted. I found the same motor and a write up by Peter Hunn but lost the link.

Thanks for the replies. The only lawnmower shop I knew that’s been around forever,
is no longer there, lol.

I seen the same SmokStak thread regarding Mr. Asa’s motor, and PM’d him a day
or two ago, but no reply. Haven’t seem him post for some time.

I was looking in a 1993 Antique Outboarder, and seen the Kompac 3, Clarke 3,
and the Aikenhead’s 3 hp, all the same motors, that used a very similar looking
Tecumseh power head. They were designed by an engineer, Douglas Rolph Clarke, a
Canadian, from Toronto. It does mention over a 30 year period his company made
all kinds of things, including jet pumps. None of the photos shown looked like mine
closely, nor had a jet pump.

Hopefully the name of mine isn’t lost to history!

Tubs, thanks for the tips. I did some more searching using
“California Jet Marine” outboards, and this photo came up.
While it appears newer than my motor, the lower unit
looks very similar. Will compare my actual parts closer today.

Pretty sure now that I have a Cal-Jet motor.
Found these photos of one 90% the same as mine.
Mine has the diaphragm type carb though.

Thanks, Tubs, I had read that article when I first got the magazine, but
forgot all about it.
Too bad the article didn’t show the 1962 Terry Troller with the “jet” lower unit.
Google didn’t bring up any examples for me.
Still convinced that I have the Cal-Jet though.
