Howdy Ya’ll,
I am currently fixing up another old FASTWIN. I am wanting to put an older (mid 60’s) powerhead on an newer mid section (1971). I noticed that the older powerhead has a baffle plate (0306210) in between two baffle gaskets under the powerhead. The newer 1971 Motor does not have this baffle plate under the powerhead. My question is what purpose did it serve on the older motors and what changes to the newer power head were made to allow this plate to be deleted? And lastly do I need to run this plate with the older power head on the newer leg? As always I thank you for your time.
Shawn

The baffle plate was supposed to keep exhaust and hot water away from the troublesome crankshaft seal area. I suppose it may have helped, but not much. As you know it was later dropped. Can’t say from memory what else was changed other than the seal.
