I had a bugger of a time tearing apart the tiller handle today, but finally figured it out.
The Bowden cable would not come out of the tiller handle. I thought maybe the cable
sheath was screwed into the inside of the handle, but no luck on that idea.
Turns out the cable was secured in an aluminum plug. The cable ran thru the
plug, and there was a set screw to hold it secure. I had to drive the plug, with
Bowden cable, out the open end of the tiller handle, using a foot long piece
of 1/4″ SS tubing in the slot on the inboard end of the handle.
The aluminum plug does not look factory, nor do I have any idea if it worked,
as the cable was froze up with I got it.
Anyone have photos of what the actual part should look like?
I don’t see a lip / stop inside the tiller handle to stop the plug in any certain place.
I believe my 1950 Speeditwin has an earlier style handle.
The parts diagram I have isn’t much for detail.
Thanks!
