I am currently restoring a Champion Tandem 33 and need info on where to get the correct color paint. I have bought Champion Post War Blue from Reprotint but the color is not the same on the Tandem motor. I stripped the top cowl but the decal would not come off, I had to peel the decal off and the blue color under the Decal is not the same as Reprotint blue and it is not faded. I am not sure the amount of paint under the decal is enough to get a good computer reading. I have spent too much time and money on these motors so I really want the correct color paint , if you know the correct paint number please let me know.
      Thanks for your help

No idea of the color of your outboard, but am curious as to “what” a Champion
Tandem 33 is. Two 16-1/2 hp motors???
        Photos would be great!
        Thanks.

        Prepare to be boarded!

The Champion 33 was two Sweet 16s (16.5 hp) sold as one motor, using a single 6 gallon gas tank. The motors were labeled port and starboard but both propellers turned the same direction. The idea was to compete with the OMC 35 hp and the Mercury 40 hp

I just found out the paint under the decal is not original paint. The bottom line is the paint under the decal had to be a repaint, because it was under a vinyl decal not a water slide. I have checked several people and they all agree that a 50’s motor would have had water slide decals. I have no idea if the paint under the decal is correct so I’m going to use the Reprotint Champion Post War Blue.

Mike: I asked you to send me pictures of your two serial plates, I am trying to locate any Tandems sets I can to sort of get a idea how many were sold, maybe you know?? Also I have encountered about 3 different “T” stamping styles so not all were the same. I guess as they came out in 1956 & then into 1957 there were different men working the serial plate stampings as well?? Perhaps you never got the message & oh yes I also have a set of Tandem 33’s totally professionally restored with the dual controls, all the proper fittings & the remote gas tank with the dual set up & they are the 1957 model as the decals were different from the 1956-1957 models. buff10@charter.net
                  Thanks

Well I found a cowl with original color and my local auto paint shop mixed me up a base coat that is a very good match for Champion Blue so tomorrow is the big day to paint the Tandem. Wish me luck.
