      Hello everyone, I have had this Johnson td 20 for some time now,, I’ve looked and looked to figure out what year it is.. The serial # is. 728443. Would appreciate any input on this. Thank you in advance. Gordon

          I’m that’s what I was asking. What is the year and up of the motor I got? And how do I figure it out. Don’t understand Johnson …..

            Yes, it is a 1949 5hp Johnson. There are classic-era Johnson serial number lists floating around the internet and in print. My quick go-to source is “The Old Outboard Book” by Peter Hunn. It covers Johnson serial numbers for years through 1961. After that, it isn’t so easy.
