New member here who needs some help with a new acquisition. I picked up a 1937 Evinrude 4 cyl which I believe is a Handi-four 9.2 hp. Model / Serial number is 4219-00517. One source I found says it is an ELTO, but the flywheel and SN plate says Evinrude (see pictures) There is no forward shroud and the cylinder. shape appears to be more rounded and less Imperial squared off..It turns over and has great compression. Not sure what the difference between a Handi-four and a Light-four is of the same year.
It is also missling a few parts like the tiller handle, gas cap and magneto advancement lever. No decals on the motor. Does anyone have these parts? Any input would be greatly!!!!!!!!!

The Evinrude sheave is probably correct. Elto name was being discontinued by WWII in US. Here are 3 pics from 1937 Elto sales brochure showing Handifour. How are resized pics attached????????????

The Elto Handifour was a 1937 only motor. The cylinders are special for that motor only.
It shares many parts with the 9.2 Lightfour but does have some special parts.
I just restored a 37 Handifour serial number 508 last year. Yours and my motor were in site of each other on the assembly line.

There are very few of these motors around. They are at the very least uncommon if not rare.

PM me for your parts needs. I may have the mag handle and tiller.

Thank you Harry for the Info! The advertisement brochure gave me the accurate picture I have looked at for the Handifour. Not sure how I managed to post the pictures so large…still learning how to use the website forums. I did mess up by posting the photos twice.

Thanks lyks2tinkr, I would love to see photos of your Handifour!!!!! I will private message you. Best I can tell the coils are bad too. Any thoughts from anyone on availability of those parts or a generic work around modification?
