I started looking on Marineengine for a new fuel pump and see that there are (at least!) three models with essentially the same appearance. Can someone tell me what the difference(s) might be?

      OMC Part number 0388685, 0397839, 0391667.

some have thicker bases but I think they are basically the same …

I found some at $6.99 (no longer available from DEALPEAK folks) … I know OEM is better but…

Probably the same pump mechanically but the inlets and outlets are clocked differently. The beauty about the square pumps is you can locate both of them wherever you want as long as the internals are correct.

A big difference in price from one to another ($114.91 to $84.57……)

Crosbyman…..do those cheap pumps work OK? I seem to remember you or someone saying that a few “mods” had to be performed first????

personnaly I can’t say I had issues with the cheaper ones except for my own screw-ups … that said you may need to reorient the in and out nipples to adjust for clearances

the cover one is easy just unscrew and align as needed. the OUTPUT nipple is trickier and requiers some brainwork to align the internal frame & check valves to work properly .

they are small ans easy to swap . You can always carry a spare in case you have worries of failure 10 miles out !

i ordered cheap one from ebay and the base plate was too thick and wouldnt fit under the cover of a 1982 evinrude 7.5. i swapped the base plate and it worked great.

The list prices aren’t THAT different, maybe they are overstocked on the one they’re selling cheaper?

I’ve used the cheapie Chinese knockoffs without any problems, and like Wrenchero said, they are a bit thicker. I have heard of anoccasional bad one,but at less then $10, just toss it an d put in another. At that price, I ordered a few so I have some around when I need.
