I picked up a JH-19 (1964 Johnson 3hp made in Belgium) and I am curious as to what difference there may be between the W and the H.
It seems the H model first appeared in 1964. Yet, 1964 shows both W and H models being built.
Are there any difference in the H and the W? Part numbers the same for both?

Big difference. JW means Weedless Drive for fishermen. JH means (Heavy Duty) Right Angle Drive. Originally meant for sailboat auxillary use.

I’m guessing it’s a lot harder to say “Johnson” in Dutch!
          Probably something like “Yanson”.

          Prepare to be boarded!
