I am replacing the exhaust transfer port gaskets on my 1962 Mercury Merc700 70hp six cylinder engine.  should they go on dry or would a bit of  gasket sealer be better.  Thank you.

“Exhaust transfer ports”, or intake transfer port covers?? Post a picture if you can…
Intake transfer port gaskets are usually installed dry, but a fine coating of the merc gasket sealer surely won’t hurt anything, just make it tougher to clean up the next time the covers are off.

Exhaust gaskets should definitely use sealer.
