My 1936 Neptune OB34A 4hp gas tank had some old red
spray paint on it. Were these gas tanks painted red originally?
I see a lot of the smaller Neptunes with red tanks, but I’ve
seen other OB34A’s with silver tank, and different color decals
to confuse maters as well. Input, or time machine to transport
      me back to 1936 appreciated.

The one I am restoring had no paint on the tank and had a green decal, I don’t think they started painting tanks until well into the 40’s

Thanks Richard! My tank is going to need bondo,
so it will get aluminum paint instead of red!

The one I am doing has a few small dents. I will try to get them out, there is a write up on that process, but I don’t remember where. Jay Walls held a clinic on that at our North Webster Indiana meet a while back…

Richard, if you find the process for dent removal on rectangular
gas tanks, please post a link. Only one I remember is for dent
removal on the Waterwitch tanks…… but mine were too
              far gone for that procedure!
Went to the big city today to look for keyway stock for said
Neptune, but could only find square stock 🙁
Found some online, but they wanted three times more for shipping
              than the keystock.

Steve, thanks for the link. If I could weld aluminum, I’d cut my tank in half
along the seam, pound out the dents, weld it.
I cut a steel tank in half on my Champion D1D, but it was to be able to
sand blast the inside, as it was chromed inside and out, and all the
chrome was peeling off inside. I did pound out a few dents while I had
                    it apart!

Would this be the correct decal for my 1936 Neptune twin 4 hp?
