      Well, I didn’t read this in a service manual, but the conversion worked to get at the internals on this salt gearcase (which was not salvageable).

      Thought you all might get a chuckle out of this one.

            Just a good ‘ol fashion skillsaw with a metal cutting blade, and a steady hand.

            On a side note, it took me a solid 15 minutes to put the forward gear, cradle, and yoke back into one of these today. The service manuals call for a special tool which I surmise ‘snakes’ a threaded screw on a flexible wire down through the shifter bearing orifice, out the back of the gearcase housing, and then pulls the 3 pieces into place.

            Does anyone have any self-made tools to recreate this handy gadget? (Or even one to sell)

              I don’t have one, but I used to have one when I was doing this stuff for a living. It worked well. Worth buying one if you are going to be doing these things.
