I just got a 1960 10 HP Johnson QD-21 at a local online auction for only $2. Gearcase and driveshaft are missing, but the rest looks to be in good shape and compression feels good when I pull it over. I have a 1963 QD-24 with a lot of parts missing up top, but the lower is all there. Gears and driveshaft are same part numbers, but gearcase housing has different numbers. Before I go to the trouble of digging out the QD-24 from winter storage and bringin’ it into my shop, does anyone know if the lower unit housing with water pump, driveshaft, etc. bolt up to the QD-21 and work? I don’t care if it looks strange.

The gearcase assembly will swap over….Not sure just what the differences are, does the original part number supercede to the later number?

According to the parts lists at Marineengine.com, the QD-21 original part 376775 does not supercede to the QD-24 number 378595, but for a sanity check, I just checked the optional long shaft housing extension numbers and they are the same, so yes – I think it will swap – Thanks!

Well, there was a change to the lower driveshaft and gears around that period, but an entire assembly will swap with no problem…
