I have the 1957 12 hp Sea King standard model, built in fuel tank. I would like to convert to fuel pump what would fit. It has a port in the transfer port for fuel pump.
August 20, 2016 at 9:34 pm #42415One of the "square" pumps ought to work. Such as Sierra 18-7350 or Mallory 9-35350. Or one of the OMC’s with a confusing array of part numbers.
August 20, 2016 at 9:41 pm #42416Here is a Briggs & Stratton pump that I rigged up because I had more time than good sense. It allows running on either/or built in integral or remote tanks. Too much work if you have good sense.
August 21, 2016 at 1:27 am #42427Nice setup Frank. I think I’ve seen it before, but I don’t think I’ve ever paid attention to how you had it routed so it could use the onboard tank or an external
August 22, 2016 at 8:59 pm #42509Frank, what keeps fuel from running out the remote tank fuel fitting on the engine when using the integral tank? It seems to me that when you turn the petcock on the integral tank, the fuel would flow out the external tank fitting. Does your external tank fitting have a check valve in it?
Thanks,
DrifterAugust 22, 2016 at 9:09 pm #42511It does. See the pin sticking out the end? This is what BRP is using now to prevent gas from dribbling out when the hose is disconnected. I actually haven’t tried it for this use until now. So far, so good.
August 22, 2016 at 9:14 pm #42512Thanks for info Frank, I think I will try your two tank setup. I found some cheap 1/4 inch check valves on Ebay, I don’t have a fuel fitting with the pin. I bet they cost a lot.
September 3, 2016 at 7:42 pm #43226Hi Frank, in the 2nd photo that shows the fuel line where it "Y’s" (view from the right side)….directly above the "Y" and at the bottom of the intake plate there is a threaded hole. Should that hole be plugged (other than mud dobbers)? Why is it there?
Thanks,
DrifterSeptember 3, 2016 at 8:28 pm #43228That is where the tank pressurizing hose would go—-IF it had a pressure tank like it’s Evinrude and Johnson cousins. I’m pretty sure the hole doesn’t actually go anywhere on the Gale version because there are no pressurizing valves on the reed plate.
September 3, 2016 at 8:54 pm #43231Thanks for the info Frank. I suspected as much. I tried to pass air / suction and knew it was plugged. Looked like where the pulse fitting is located on other OMC. I worry too much.
Thanks again,
