Hi everyone, it’s cold in Washington! I’m working on a 12hp scott mac lowerunit, and am changing the bearing in the lower unit. the one in the very bottom is in a blind whole and has me stumped. I finally decided to put the housing in an oven and warm it up, but thought I’d ask before doing so. Thank. CSW

60 minutes in an oven set at 250F should loosen up any old grease inside the gearbox. A good rinse with solvent after letting it cool down and blowing out with compressed air should get it clean enough to see what`s going on in there.

Here`s a couple of PDF`s showing the lower units used.
