I have picked up a 15 hp on a new boat I just purchased. The seller said it was a 1983. When looking up the codes, it doesn’t register as a match to anything. The code is J15ELCUD. It does have a 100 to 1 fuel mixture sticker on it’s side but after reading several articles, they suggest that Johnson changed their minds and later recommended a 50 to 1. I have several questions. First is what year is this model? Second is 100 to 1 or 50 to 1. Third is does anyone have a owners manual for this model that they would be willing to sell. Most of my Johnson’s are 70’s models and I can’t seem to find anything about a 1983 (if that is what this actually is) owners manual. Thanks in advance.

Your motor is a 1987 model. Stick with 50:1 mix as the short lived mid 80’s 100:1 mix almost put OMC into bankruptcy!

Scrape off that 100 to 1 sticker and hope it doesn’t have a lot of 100 to 1 hours on it!

Does anyone know where I can purchase a 1987 Johnson 15 hp owners manual. My older Johnson’s (2 and 6 hp) manuals were easy to find. Thanks in advance.
