ALL TAKEN CARE! Thanks Brook. I am trying to take apart the 2 piece crankcase on my 1912 to replace the lower half of the crankcase to install the correct half of case in #10 part number.  I have opened it up & had some success with it opening about 3/8″ between the two halves, but that as far as I can separate them. I did remove the set screw on the shaft believing that could be the problem.  The set screw wasn’t the problem.  I also tried moving the piston in a couple of different positions with no avail.   I didn’t want to tare down it any farther to change just the lower half.

Can anyone tell me what mite be or is the interfering with pulling the lower half and its shaft tube off?   Any suggestions
      would be greatly appreciated?

        Hi Bill,

Once you remove all the bolts the top half of the case should slide freely off over the top of the crankshaft.

I have experienced  situations where the top taper area of the crankshaft is bent not allowing the top half of the case to

Slide off. ( usually caused by the flywheel taking a hard downward hit at some point in its life. )

As far as removing the crankshaft from the lower case half, yes remove the set screw. At that point the driveshaft coupler

Should drop down off the tail end of the crankshaft allowing you to remove the crankshaft from the lower case half.

Again a bent crankshaft tail, rust or maring from the set screw could  possibly be the culprit if the coupler does not drop

down. The steel tube usually has a press fit over the lower case half stem. A bar close in size to the ID of the steel tube and

A mallet can be used to gently remove the tube from the lower case stem. As always gentle care should be taken as parts

Can be fragile and bend, alignment and clearance tolerances are key.

As always feel free to contact me directly and we can walk through it.

        Respectfully,
