Hello! I have come across a 1918 Evinrude Rowboat Motor, and it needs some parts. I will attach some photos, but it needs a spark plug, carb, flywheel knob, and fuel tank. If anyone has some of these and would be willing to part, please let me know! Also, fuel mixture would be necessary info, thanks!

Tom, I believe it is an Evinrude, as on the tank and flywheel, Evinrude was printed numerous times, I attached pics below!

that’s the tank, my images are stubborn to upload, sorry!
April 3, 2023 at 10:40 pm #274772For sure a Caille 5-Speed, missing the variable pitch prop. Not uncommon to have an Evinrude flywheel, Caille used them on their motors. Is the “Evinrude” just the small font patent info, or is the logo large font raised embossed on the flywheel. As for the tank, where does it say Evinrude? that is a Caille tank. Also the 1/8 NPT hole on the starboard side of the cylinder is for a primer cup.. that’s Caille, not evinrude. The five notches in that part of the tiller handle mount if the “5” steps in the 5-Speed
Is the motor free? more pix of the lower unit, please.

Joe – I’m not sure if the photo will attach, but it is faded, and I believe it to say “Evinrude” on the tank there, but I believe you about it being a Caille. Are there parts available for it still?
April 4, 2023 at 11:43 am #274780Parts and/or a parts motor may be available, but it will be a major challenge and likely a long time hunt. The variable pitch propellor is a complicated piece subject to wear and damage, so even if you find the parts, most likely they will need repair. If your intention is to get this motor running, my suggestion would be to focus on the top end. Take it abart and assess the condition of internals. Find the mixer ( carburetor) will be the first step. Most likely you will need a “buzz coil” set-up for ignition. Penn’s outboard parts and local swap meets are your best chances for parts.

I have a carb for it, and I was told that it has a magneto system, which I believe would remove the need for a buzz-coil (If that is the external coil)
April 4, 2023 at 2:17 pm #274786The motor appears to have the components of a magneto. But the motor seems to have spent some time outside, so you would be extremely lucky if the Evinrude magneto still works. Repair or replacement is not a simple task on those mags. So if you get to the point where you have a carb, a good tank, and all of the internals check out, you might consider running it on a buzz coil. The Evinrude magneto lends itself well to using a buzz coil since the points close to fire. In the Caille mags used on similar motors, the opposite is true and you need to use a relay to reverse the logic.
