I would be very grateful for your expert opinions on this motor. I believe it is a 1924 Johnson based on the SN of B12197 but I do not know how to interpret the model. Is there such a thing a s a “B” model? It looks like a J-25 from what few pictures I have seen. It is seized but I am deciding on between finding the gas tank and refurbishing it for looks of selling it for parts. I love the look of it. Another question I have is, is that the correct handle for the motor and does anyone have the proper gas tank? Any information or opinions would be appreciated!

The lower gearcase makes it look like a J-25 single but didn’t Johnson have the ‘B’ for bronze lower units? They did have a BN model for ’22 -’24 and the AB model for ’25 and ’26 but I’m not sure about a B.

It looks to be a J lower unit, with a two cylinder powerhead on it sideways. One cylinder is missing and blocked off. It’s parts, at best.

Thanks! How are models (like J-25) designated by the SN i wonder for these older Johnsons. The B12197 SN has me curious. Like you mentioned, I have not found any charts showing a B model. If it is a J-25, is that what the “B” signifies? Wasn’t the J-25 a single cylinder motor?

Thanks for the input. What do you think the lower unit and magneto are worth?
