Motor was running before I took it apart to repair the fuel tank. The points are set at .20 and close at TDC. There is no spark at the plug but the test light flashes twice on one revolution while the points are open. This is my first RBM so I could use some help. Is something grounding out?

Did you disassemble any part of the magneto when you took the tank off?

Was just thinking, since the breaker arms are insulated maybe they moved and grounded out (old insulating material gone bad). I’ll check that tomorrow.

PM T2; I found a wire that came loose from the condenser, soldered it and gave it a new plug wire. Good spark now, a couple puffs of smoke, and I was spent. The crank seems to spin freely but it is all I can do to pull it through compression. I did fog the cylinder two weeks ago but spun it maybe fifty times while checking spark. Will it get any easier? Thanks. "Gotta Sit for a Spell Slim"
