Hi, I was wondering if someone might have a 1927 Johnson A-35 parts manual scanned in somewhere? Also any information on the magneto would be useful. When I got the motor I roped it over a few times to check for spark and it had it. About a year later I am finally getting around to cleaning it up and after taking the flywheel off I see that the coil is cracked open and it looks like all the transformer varnish had "melted" off. I’ll check the coil with an ohm meter, but eve if it is good now I’d not really want to reuse it without some kind of maintence even if it means just sealing it up with liquid tape! Also the mag plate/amerature plate seems to be warped. I thought that was kinda odd.

Here’s some links to some manuals which should cover your motor.

If the mag plate is warped and the coil lams are rubbing on the flywheel magnets, it can be straightened by gently twisting it with two hands. It is cast and it will break if you get to aggressive with it so easy does it!

The black tar like material helps hold the ends of the plug wires in place and can be chipped or melted out when replacing the coil. You have to be careful as the terminals are near the bottom of the coil and could get damaged while poking away in there.

And an F 70 Mag plate after a cleanup.

Thank you sir, that is great information! I guess that brown tar like stuff is what they refer to korite? in the manuals?
