I recently acquired a 1927 15’ Lyman. I’m looking for suggestions as to what motor to power it. I’m an OMC guy but I’m open to other options. It’s an open boat with three seats and is meant for outboard steering. The boat will be brought back to life to above 95% original construction.
      Thoughts?  Suggestions?

ELTO speedster/quad or big Johnson or Lockwood chief would all be good period-correct motors.   I personally would put a Lockwood chief on it as that is one of my favorite motors I do not own that would put your boat on a decent plane, and has some really good styling, but put whatever you like.  A later po-15 would also look nice if the boat can handle the wieght and you do not need it period-correct. The link I posted is of a boat that I assume to be somewhat similar with a Lockwood chief on it.  If both the motor and boat were restored, it would probably look really nice.

Everyone has an opinion, if it were mine I would find a 3o/35 OMC outboard for it.  Ya can’t beat the way a Lyman rides on the water.  1927 is an oldie for sure.  You would have a challenge getting the old girl shipshape, but it can be done!   Post some pictures for us to drool on.  Gotta Love those old Lymans!

I actually have taken over the honor of maintaining this beauty. I have a 1928 Lockwood Chief, 11hp. It should push it pretty good. Just need to get coils for it.

You probably have to modify different coils to fit it.  I’ve seen that boat a few times when researching motors….It’s a cool boat and should make for a good project for you, and I imagine the results will be great.

You are right about the coils. I’m in the process of getting some speedytwin coils.

From how I interpret it, the Facebook link I posted is of the boat.

I’m not sure 🤔 of how to post a picture. Mine seem to be too large.

Depending on the computer program you are using, there is usually a rescaling feature where you can change the size in pixels.  You could also try posting pictures one at a time if that does not work and they are less than 2mb each.
