rjoynt.. give some consideration to how you intend to use the boat? How comfortable are you with the oldest motors? maintance , repairs, parts etc”  AND how important is having a period correct rig to you?

Depending on how you answer and If your intended use is frequent family boat outings, club cruises etc… maybe a 1950’s vintage OMC would be the best choice.

Joe, I am more familiar with the 50’s motors, but I think that this boat requires an appropriate motor. No problem with parts and support. That’s one of the great things of belonging to the Club. I’m in the Western Reserve Chapter; the treasurer for many years. We have many knowledgeable members and plenty of parts.
      Thanks for your concern.
(and I may at one point put on my favorite 10hp Evinrude…)

Ok, it sounds like you are stuck on one of those direct drive old timers.  How about a nice  1941 KD15 johnson?   I have one, fixed it up a few years ago.  It has not been started.  It had spark at one time and it sure came out good.  I also have a Evinrude light four.  An award winner.  I fixed it up and never started it either.  PM me if you want some pictures.  Check out this Lyman in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ1hOpd8tqg  The boat shows up at 2:15.  I can’t post a picture of the KD.

Transom  is only one board thick without a lot of bracing. I would put about a 15 HP. vintage about the year of the boat engine on it and call it a day.

I believe that I have settled on a 1928 Lockwood Chief. 11 horse 🐎 power. But the one that I have has a bad coil. Looking to either get it rewound or using a speedyfour coil. I guess that Bill A does it. Any YouTube videos?
