The mag plate is from a 1929 Johnson V-45 with 1 coil and point Assy removed. remove the set screw and pull it off , you probably want to replace with the missing Atwater Kent battery ignition set up with knob start. Or, you can drop a complete 1931- up Evinrude Speeditwin Assy. on it. Don’t try "U" Speeditwin as it is different taper.JimRoss
May 20, 2018 at 2:39 am #76379Jim, Thanks for the information. I’d love to put the Speeditwin
back to original, but not sure of the likelyhood of finding
the parts. Are you saying that the 1931 and up Evinrude Speeditwin
"mag plate and flywheel" are a direct swap? What is a "U Speeditwin"?
Much appreciated!

I suspect those parts would be easier to find than the correct ones.

Thanks for that information.
I’m obviously "clueless" on this vintage of outboards, so now
I now know that a "U Speeditwin" is 1928-30 vintage, and have
heard of, and seen photos of a Senior Speedster, but
have no clue as to what a "Regular Speedster" is, and it’s
differences.
Photographic examples also greatly appreciated.Schooling most appreciated!

May 20, 2018 at 12:03 pm #76389Do you not have any model-year guides?
He's livin' in his own private Idaho..... I hope to go out quietly in my sleep, like my grand-dad did..... and not screaming, like the passengers in his car...

as late as 1948, like the photo fit my 1930 Elto Speedster?
If so, amazing that something 18 years newer would fit.

May 20, 2018 at 12:45 pm #76395quote Richard A. White:Same guide…..Thanks Richard. I went back through my notes, refreshed my
memory that my Elto is a model 310, and sure enough,
it shows up in the Evinrude model list, showing it
as a 1930, 14 hp, but nothing more.
What I’m really wondering is……
What’s the physical differences, say between
a regular Elto Speedster and a Senior Speedster, etc.
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!
