Johnson’s single in 1931 was the J-25. Its hp. rating was 1.5 hp. The Evinrude Scout and Pal had a factory hp rating of .9 but they weren’t available till 1937. Few parts are being manufactures today for these motors. Parts would come from other motors. I have, or have had, several of these motors. While some were only good for harvesting the good parts, many of them only needed the fuel system cleaned, service the gear case, and ignition service being, cleaning and oiling the points and possibly a new sparkplug, new sparkplug wire, and a new condenser. Rusty gas tanks, water left in the gear case, and broken of skeg, are most common issues for the .9 Evinrudes. Water left in the gear case, and a badly worn reverse tilt lock are common with the Johnson.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
