Could anyone help me please? I am looking for information, pictures, anything about an outboard motor that used to be manufactured in Colby, WI. Years could roughly be between 1935-1975??? The builder was LOOS MACHINE in Colby, WI (that I know).

I’ve heard of some actual motors floating around at auctions… but just seeing if anyone has any information or knowledge of these motors. Thank you in advance for any feedback!

…additionally, LOOS were somehow related to Mercury Marine. Either Mercury bought the prototypes/design, or Mercury was outsourcing some prototype work to this company (so the story goes).

I’ve not heard of any Merc connection. According to an article in the Oct 1979 Outboarder magazine, LOOS was involved with some machining of parts for the Kingfisher outboard in the 1930s for a customer from the Twin Cities in MN. At least two kingfishers exist today.

There is currently a Loos Machine in Colby and there website says they were established in 1902. There is a phone number at the bottom of this page so maybe contacting them to see if they have any old records on file might help.
