Its not likely that we are done with this subject
because people keep asking. While some have
there mind made up others may come here to ask
because they would like to run less oil. There are
a variety of concerns they may have that others don’t.
The main one is to show those that aren’t fans of
our old motors that we have the same concerns as
they do about the air and water and we aren’t using
and more oil that most modern 2 cycle outboards.
Some time ago, to learn if you could run less oil in
the earlier bushing motors, I built this motor from
parts from at least 4 other motors. The timer,
flywheel, exhaust are from a 28. The power head is
a 29 I got from Doug Penn. I’m not sure where the
rest of the parts came from. It calls for 3/4 of a pint
or 12 oz per gallon. The oil I used was Pennzoil full
synthetic at 3 oz. per. gal. My thinking was by
reducing the oil by 2/3 it wouldn’t take very long to
know if it this was fact or fiction. That was 2010.
I ran almost 50 gallons of gas through it that summer
trying to blow it up. I can’t say how much gas I’ve run
through it up till today but it still pushes the boat almost
20 mph. I have been using that mix in most everything
      I have ever since.
Westwind has a valid point about the oil sealing the
main bearings. 3 oz. isn’t enough for my Pal’s, Ranger,
or my Sea King Midget. They need 4 oz. to make the seal.
Everything else I’ve run so far does fine on 3 oz. per gal.
I’m not looking to change the world. Just tell those who
would like to run less oil that I do. Then they can decide
what would be best for them.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I guess the video link wasn’t working.
        I think this one will.
