The prop shaft on my J-80 has a one piece prop gear /
water pump cam. A portion of the cam is ate away,
about 1/16" deep, and one tooth on the gear is about
      gone.
If I were to attempt repair that was okay for "occasional"
use, what would work the best.
I was thinking of "brazing", as I’m lucky of striking
an arc with any welder within a inch of the target!
      Ideas welcome.
If I could get a good gear for $20 I might entertain
that thought, but I’d like to try a repair just for the fun
      first 🙂

I think someone took this one to a grindstone so I chucked it up in the four jaw and resurfaced the cam.

Check out the wear on those gear teeth. I can’t hear them crunching when the motor is running so the Corn Head grease must be doing something good down there!

Mumbles, nice pointy teeth on those gears!
Mines aren’t wore bad, just corroded.
My lathe chuck is one jaw short to do what
          you did. 🙁
Did you have to make your plunger longer after
turning down the cam, or did it still pump okay?
          Thanks.

There’s an insert in the end of the plunger tube so I resurfaced it slightly to and it pumps good now. The spring made up for any difference in length.

"Insert"……..That’s an interesting idea. I could cut off the worn end of
the plunger and make a brass insert and solder it to the
              tube…… wouldn’t that work?
