      Hi All,
New to all of this but here it goes. 1937 Elto Pal was running for 5-10 mins with intermittent missing and then…no spark. Removed flywheel and ignition plate and plop…my Spark plug wire broke off at the coil. The wire itself needs replacing (cracked insulation). I have a few questions:

      1. How do I test and verify my coil is good (before I solder a new wire on).
      2. Where can I get a replacement spark plug wire, plug connector and boot? NAPA?
      3. Any tips or tricks to soldering the wire on to the coil? (not much experience soldering)

Looking at the ignition system on this motor, it needs breaking down and cleaning. It also looks like my grandfather has soldered on this system in the past. I guess I will take photos before dismantling, clean and reassemble checking the point gaps. I also have a replacement capacitor on the way

Thanks in advance for your sage advice.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

In 1937 Evinrude "improved" the parts books by providing pictures of the parts taken spread out on a sheet in the parking lot behind the engineering department.

In later years (1939) they used blueprints to better show where they were used so as to be easy to identify.

Still later the development of computers spurred on by World War Two allowed these blue prints to be easily converted to the exploded views introduced in 1950
