I have chanced upon a ’38 s2d that is in really good condition. I would like to restore it but I need a repair manual and I need to know what color it was originally as well as find sources for decals. The cylinders appear to have been etched or stripped of paint. Any info would be appreciated. I have a video of the motor on youtube:

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

The Champion S2D was built in 1938 and made by the Scott-Atwater Manufacturing Company in Minneapolis, MN for Champion Outboards Motors. There were 413 of this model made. They used a Bosch Model RF-43 Magneto. I have not seen repair manuals for these but There are Pre-War Champion instructions for operation including S&O. It also lists the plugs/gap and oil/lube requirements. You may be able to find a user guide on-line or on Ebay. You can PM me and I can send you some info. The tanks were nickle plated and Fly Wheel was Polish. The rest of the motor would have been painted in a silver paint or possible dull aluminum. They sold at list for 79.95,weighed 37 lbs, and were rated at 3.4 hp. Cool little motors! Yours sounds like it runs pretty good as well!

            Hope this helps.

Also, I would encourage you to reach out to Harry Nicholson via email from the member directory and see if he has a copy of the guide he produced for last years Tomahawk meet. Has good information! Pics, etc.
