Edited question #2:
2. I found a 1935-1940 manual that says use Texaco Outboard Gear Lubricant which they say is in a tube
What is the equivalent of this? I have some QuickSilver Marine Grease that I use on prop shaft but it is pretty thick.
Is Lubriplate No. 105 Motor Assembly Grease correct? It sounds like the same process as I do for changing lower unit oil
Any help is appreciated

May 25, 2022 at 5:11 pm #260480Don’t use the Quicksilver grease. The Texaco gear lube isn’t around anymore, so yes, you can use the Lubriplate 105. Other option are John Deere cornhead grease or cotton picker spindle grease from Tractor Supply. The Lubriplate and John Deere greases are grade #0 and the Tractor Supply product is a little thinner at grade #00. I’m using the Tractor Supply grease in my ’37 Champion and it seems to work fine.

May 25, 2022 at 9:13 pm #260485Thank you Bob.
Also – Managed to get the tank back on. A little imagination and Tetris moves
May 28, 2022 at 9:39 pm #260598Tried to start this motor and did not fire. Maybe a tiny bit when I put a little fuel mix in the cylinder
My carb is a MS 85 C. Wondering where I should start for adjustments
i have a screw adjustment that has marking ‘Lean’ with a clockwise arrow on the carb throat cover
I have a lever on the side. I assume this is the choke. Up is choke? Or down?
I have a lever on the top. I assume is throttle. Some notches on underside of fuel tank that the lever hits that looks to be means to ‘lock’ in a speed. Start midway?
I have a T type knob that looks to be control for fuel flow into bowl. How many turns out?
I think that is all I have for adjustments
any help would be appreciated

May 29, 2022 at 12:12 am #260600For initial adjustments and starting, try these:
Screw adjustment with “Lean” marking – close to seat, then open 3/4 turn
Choke lever on the side – up to choke, down to run
Lever on the top is the throttle – open about halfway
T handle knob is main adjustment screw – close to seat, then open 2 full turns

June 5, 2022 at 9:00 pm #261018So I get a spark with an in-line spark tester but can’t seem to get one at the plug.
I pulled the flywheel and cleaned the points but didn’t help so condenser or coil is the only two things left
Anyone with a weak spark solution? What are possible replacements for these parts. Original parts don’t seem to be available
June 5, 2022 at 9:56 pm #261028Did you check the coil primary and secondary windings with an ohm meter?
In my opinion, it’s always best to replace the condenser.
If you need help with the test, let us know.
Photos of your magneto may help us.My 1940 Champion S1F magneto information. I’m not sure
if your mag has the same components or not.

June 5, 2022 at 10:58 pm #261036I’ll get pics and ohm measurements tomorrow. It has an Eisemann 61E magneto I believe

Looks like I have an open secondary on the coil. Strange since I had something with the tester. Pic below after I started to disassemble.
