Just starting out as a collector
Recently obtained a 1939 elto 1.1 model 4266 trying clean it up has some surface rust on gas tank.. any suggestions on what to use to shine her up?February 6, 2019 at 3:20 pm #166147Super Clean or oven cleaner for the dirt and grease followed by a trip to the car wash to powerwash.
Try Evaporust or similar to clean tank both inside and out. Apple cider vinegar along with BB’s, ball bearings
And scrap nuts & bolts shaken overnight also works wonders!Good Luck!

I have seen different colors on line and want to get it back to original condition.. the picture you sent apears to have tank painted silver but the fly wheel and motor area looks like polished aluminum? What do you think?

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

February 10, 2019 at 9:26 am #166519Mother’s on aluminum. Phosporic acid or CLR on rust.
I polish flywheels with small amounts of Mother’s while the motor is running. Use a sponge to avoid breaking your wrist when a cloth gets caught in a rope sheave.
