For starting the magneto lever should be
pointing to around 4 or 5 O’clock as you face
the motor.
The mixture lever should point to 3 O’clock
when the mixture screw is closed. The
priming lever should be set to push the
float pin down when the mixture lever points
to “Prime”. To start open the mixture screw
so the lever points to “prime”. Watch for
gas to start dripping. Immediately move the
mixture screw to about 11 O’clock (a bit more
than a 1/4 turn from being lightly seated) and
try to start the motor. Adjust the fuel mixture
to the best running position. If the motor isn’t
starting close the mixture screw all the way
and pull it over 6 or 8 times. If the motor takes
off and dies it was flooded. Its not uncommon
to find these motors so worn out they will no
longer run. Consider yourself lucky if yours
does.
