New member that picked up an HD-39 from an estate sale.  I’m having a hard time trying to remove the flywheel. Tried knocking tool (bolt with two nuts) with no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Attached is a picture of the flywheel

      Thanks again!

Knocking tool works better (and better for engine) if someone
holds up the motor by the flywheel, so the weight of the motor
aids the process using the knocker.
A little PB Blaster, etc., can’t hurt.

        Prepare to be boarded!

As Buck has stated, you must be lifting the flywheel. Don’t be afraid to really smack it. Heating the flywheel around the crankshaft to expand it may help. Also, taking a piece of wood and placing it off to the edge of the flywheel and striking down with a hammer, while holding the flywheel up, can also be helpful. Go all around the edge of flywheel and try hitting the bolt again.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Thank for the suggestions.  I was finally able to remove the flywheel by using an impact driver to break it loose.
