hello everyone so when disasembling the carb the 2 clips that maintain the cork float height : 1 under the cork has a detent that snaps into place the 1 above the cork float does not have a detent to let the float rise when taking it apart it was about 1/2 inch above the cork so do i put it higher to let more gas in to the bowl or is that setting about right dont have and specs and dont want it to flow out the top of the bowl i also have a 1946 to 1948 evinrude 5.4 hp zephyr that is the same way thanks with any info.

The clips should be tight on each side of the cork float. The float
only has about 1/4″ of travel.

          Prepare to be boarded!

Roland, thanks for feedback I found tha t article by doing a simple search on the Zephir. Another member had posted it and I just recopied the URL

you carb has similarities with TN carbs see Poche familiy link. http://www.pochefamily.org/outboard/CarbService.html

if you are going to work on other oldies download yourself a copy of the Johnson manual aka red book for your PC or have it printed and bound at a print shop

go to….MEMBERS ONLY INNER SANCTUM LIBRARY GARRY SPENCER …. then go down the listing and find the PDF for the Johnson manual

The Zephyr and Lightfour carbs are in a group all of their own. The ‘either you hate them or you love them’ group. Not much in common with HD or TN carbs here.

Got 2 Zephyrs and one LightFour — a b–tch to get fuel mixture just so, but when they run, listening to four tiny pistons humming will be your reward
