Fortunate to have found another one of these little gems. I thought it would be a parts motor but it has great spark and appears to be all there. The tank came in 2 parts. Interestingly the bottom half is much heavier guage than the upper half. No dents so I’m q bit perplexed as to why a PO took it apart in the first place. It is quite rusty even on the inside.
How should I go about fixing/reconnecting/restoring this tank? Looking for suggestions and recommendations. If I bead blast it I’m afraid I may find pinhole perforations and the tank will be useless. But how should I go about cleaning ip/preparing the edge on the 2 mating surfaces before soldering? And what’s the technique for soldering? Should I hire someone to solder it for me? I suck at it and am grateful all my previous soldering work has been covered up by flywheels. 😂
Any ideas are appreciated.I’m not sure what I want to do with this motor. I would just clean it up and get it running but I have another one in that condition. I think this one should be restored/painted and a new set of decals added. So since I need to fix/reconnect the tank I may as well do what it takes to do it right.
Thanks,

I would use Evaporust
To clean tank. If no one
In your local chapter is
Good at soldering, I would
Find a good radiator repair
Shop to solder it up for you!
If any pin holes are found
Unlikely as the steel is
Thick on these tanks you
Can re seal with any gas
Tank sealer etc… Nice find!Good Luck,
Bob

January 3, 2022 at 12:10 am #252234Thanks for the reminder Bob! I’ve heard good things about evaporust and I’ve been meaning to try it. This tank is a perfect test subject!
Not sure what motor this prop is for. It fits (very tightly) on the prop shaft but is not correct for this motor. Had to use heat to remove it. Anybody have an idea what motor(s) it may fit? I’ll get better pictures of it tomorrow.
