I ran into this today. It seems a bit beat up but basically tight. It is, of course, an opposed twin. No recoil but the tank seems to have provision for mounting one. The spark plugs look like "original" brass-screw-terminal types. Fuel shutoff stem looks broken off.

I couldn’t immediately find any details on these online. Does anybody know what sort of water pump and magneto they use? Are they good runners?

Magneto was typical of all small Evinrudes of that era. Simple to service and maintain. If the coil is good now, it might be good for life as long as it doesn’t get physically damaged. Use a very small amount of light oil on the lubricating wick, otherwise the oil gets thrown around and oils up your points, which will stop you dead.

Exhaust passages in that big muffler can plug up with carbon, so it’s useful to pull that off once in awhile and clean things out.

I think those motors still used an aluminum impeller, so you should not have to be concerned with the impeller wearing out. Garry Spencer probably has something scanned from a parts book that will help you if he can post it.

They are nice running motors, very smooth and quiet, but they are not speed demons by any means, I think a Johnson JW 3 HP or the later Evinrude Lightwin (also 3 HP) will run away from them.

        Hope this helps.

They are asking $50. I offered $25. Is the mix 16-1 on these?

Yes 16-1 on the mix. Very easy to work on. Yes it is a two stage aluminum impeller. I paid $10 for mine at an auction and it is a great running little motor! Send me a message with your email and I will send you the parts diagrams for it. I still need a few misc parts for mine so if you buy it and decide to part it out let me know.

Twenty bucks at my dealers back room, and it runs!
