This AJ Tillotson carb on this subject motor
      had no “choke” plate.
Is it suppose to have a plate with the strange spring
(that takes me a few tries to get it in stalled correct)
      like the some Mercurys?

KB=1A Owners Manual shows carburetor and cam. No break down of parts.  New Parts List has all parts named and numbered, but would take some time and patience to sort out. There is no indication of any movable choke device on the AJ 3A  out.

Strange, if there’s no provision for choking it, but I suppose if necessary
one can come up with some way! Thanks.

That usually works, unless the motor has a cowl on the front.
Not sure this little “Plain Jane” Merc ever did though.

Louis, the KB-3 has the poppet valve carb with a “tickler” to lift the
poppet off the seat to prime.

Interesting that my KB-3 was built after Thuerwatcher’s, and I have
a poppet valve carb. Things that make you go “hmmmmmmm”?

New Parts List reveals a few items of interest  Tillotson AJ 10A is used on KB-3,  KD-3 -1 and KD-3-2 each of which have Cowl, Carburetor 1399-538   SO same carb, same cowl AND same choke assembly 23224A2  This means the relatively uncommon KB-3 shares cowl, carb and choke with more common KD-3 singles.  Missing choke assembly solved.

                        Louis

If the New Parts List is to be believed  (sometimes The List need a little cross checking) KD-3 carburetor and choke assembly are the same. A side by side comparison with one or more known original KB-3 would move me from 99% to 99,00% sure. Best proof is always several known originals and sometimes even they will vary because Kiekhaefer was not always able to build as they intended.
