      Gentlemen,
As I continue my journey to restore a 1941 Neptune 9.5 lawn ornament that sat in a yard for 20 years, I ran into a little problem. As I did more testing I found out both coils are bad. As you guys know these coils are expensive and usually hard to find. So looking at what I had on hand I found two new generic OMC coils (Green ones) and time. I removed the old coils from the armature and went to work. Using my Dremel cutoff wheels and other grinding implements I reduced the size of the armature to the point where I could mount my generic OMC coils. I reinstalled the coils and tested the spark and found I had bright hot spark from both coils. Now if I have a coil fail I will have a ready supply of fresh coils.Another good bit of news is that I bought a lot of 11 new condensers off of EBay for $40.00. I think I had a pretty good day. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

As my grandpa used to say "Anything will work if you crank it fast enough!" Well done. πŸ™‚

Well this is embarrassing. We thought we were pretty
smart over the years telling people they could adapted
these OMC coils to about any motor they will fit in and
          they will work great.
Seems you have fingered that out on your own.
You deserve at least one "At-A -Boy"

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I have a 1941 6 hp Neptune I haven’t got into yet. Do you have the part # for these OMC coils and an inexpensive place to purchase (preferably in Canada)?

Look on EBay for the generic green OMC coils. Sometimes you will see them sold in pairs. Here are some current listings:

Our Club Member "outboardJim" should also be considered when needing coils.
