      Hello All,
I am finishing the restoration of my 1941 Neptune 9.5hp and I found a pinhole leak on the underside of the tank. I would like to make a permanent fix on this but I do not want to use a tank sealer like red coat or JB weld. I have fixed tanks before using a fiber washer and a self tapping screw but I want something less visible. Can I solder this or should I have it welded. Thanks

Getting solder to stick to aluminum can be a real challenge.
I tried this stuff on a tank once but it didn’t work.

Home depot has the aluminum brazing rod and would be a
good choice here but there is learning curve with this stuff.
It you try this, fail, and then take it to have it welded you’ll
need to get it or anything you try off first.

Do you have a tank to practice?
You would probably need to drill the
hole out to remove any contaminants.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

The best repair would be to have a welder use HeliArc(TIG) to repair it. Most Welding schools will do this for free but as small as the hole is it wouldn’t cost much to have it welded up. Make sure the tank is purged of all gas and fumes.

You can alos ask around and see if any of your family or friends knows a welder who may do it for you.
