As I was perusing my Champion folder files, I found this photo named
“1942 Champion Electra Twin, 7 hp”.
I have no idea who’s motor, or where I got the photo, but I don’t remember
      ever seeing this model.
Why is it so named “Electra”?
I doubt seriously if it’s electric start, and I see no electrical “plug in” for
      a light, etc.

        I don’t see a rewind either.

Those are so cool.  I would love to have one.  The recoil is under the powerhead…..below the handle you see there.

Wait until you see the magneto!

I puzzled over their choice of name as well.  Nothing “electrical” about it.  Magneto ignition although an unusual design.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I’d wager a guess that WWII put a slight hitch in their get-along.

It’s one of those “odd ball” motors that I wouldn’t mind having.
I did work on one Champion that had the rewind below the powerhead……
it was a strange setup, and probably not very popular…….. especially when
                it broke!

The WICO magneto that is used is named the  FW6 ½-1418.  There is only one coil, one set of points and one condensor that alternately fires both cylinders.  Johnson employed a similar design in their LT, DT, and AT models.  Inside the flywheel there are two sets of magnets and a bakelite disk with a brass sector that fires one cylinder but grounds the other.

It was their first alternate firing twin. Made in ’41 & ’42. Models 3G & 3H.

That magneto is strange indeed. I have worked on the Johnson version,
                      but was not a fan!

I believe the model is called Electra after the goddess of the storm clouds.

Perhaps it produced more blue smoke than other motors 🙂
