      Hello all, I am looking for a parts break down of the Elgin 401. Trying to find out what is available to keep my grandfather’s old outboard running. I had it out on the water today. Sounds like I have slop in the connecting rod bearings or piston wrist pin. Going to remove the reed plate and the head to investigate. Thank you in advance.

        They’re well built little engines, and the powerheads are not too hard to work on.
        The water pump is “different”, and care must be taken as to not damage them
        if the lower unit is taken off.
