I got my motor running in a barrel of water but I can not tell if water is flowing through the motor. How can I tell?

Should slobber water droplets out the slots on the back, about half way down, at all speeds.

Got her running last night and the slits right near the top rotation point have exhaust and a tiny bit of water coming out. Is this enough flow?

Don’t know. It’s hard to define "tiny". But what you are seeing is only a portion of the water actually circulating. The rest goes out with the underwater exhaust. Does the powerhead stay cool?

I have only ran it for 10-15 min or so. but I can put my hand on the head and it is warm/hot to the touch.

I had an over heating problem with a’49 ELTO Sportster. Garry recommended new rubber, and provided a link to buy it. I had already rebuilt (replaced) the brass cam that ran the pump, and the rubber "seemed good". I didn’t think I needed it, but was still overheating. The new rubber did the trick! The old rubber was not so much worn as stiff. The new rubber was softer, and did a MUCH better job pumping water.
