Make sure part is "cold" when you check the dimensions, aluminum changes dimensions quite drastically with temp changes, and being that thin it will change even more.

I have made several adapter sleeves as mumbles suggested. I turn the O.D. to size for a press fit in the housing and shove it in. Then chuck the housing in the lathe and finish the I.D. for the seal fit.

Richard, Good tip on taking measurements "cold". Thanks.
Frank, I’m guessing you have a four jaw chuck. I do not,
but will look at the end cap and see if it’s possible to mount.
          Thanks

Looking for a modern replacement for prop shaft seal 202686,
for the 1950 to 1953 Evinrude Fleetwins.

The prop shaft seal is an oddball size, of .594 or 19/32″ shaft size,
and the OD is .875, or 7/8″.

            up the OD.
Anyone have any good prop data with bore sizes that
shows a bore to fit a prop shaft of .594 or 19/32″ ?
            Thanks!

That is only 1/32 (about 31 thou) larger than 9/16, a common size. I think that is a difference many seals would be able to handle. Going the other way, you are 1/32 from 5/8, another common size. A good 5/8" seal, one with a gaiter spring, might hold in a 19/32nd shaft. If it was me I’d probably order one of each and see how they fit…..

3 jaw chuck will do it just fine, material needs to be bigger when you start is all..

Amuller, interesting idea. Guess I’ve never tried to stretch
a too small seal over a bigger shaft, but 1/32" doesn’t
sound like "too big of a stretch"1
                Thanks for idea!
Haven’t had time to play much today….. air conditioner
repairman was here for the last three hours 🙁

Update on the 4443 & 4447 Evinrude Fleetwin
                  lower unit seals.
For one unit I bought NOS drive shaft and prop shaft
seals. They’re the kind that’s all rubber, no metal case,
and they have a sealing bead around the OD.

For the other unit, I found a modern replacement for
the drive shaft seal, but could not find one for the
prop shaft seal. Therefore I took the suggestion
of using a seal with the correct shaft size, but
with a "too small" OD, and making a bushing on the lathe.
I turned the aluminum bushing OD to size, and most
of the ID to size on the lathe, but then install the
bushing in the bearing end cap, and installed the end cap
in the lathe to finish boring the bushing ID, as it’s
wall diameter was only .020 or so.
This idea worked great. Thanks for those suggestions!

The unit with the NOS seals LEAKS, lol.
The unit with the retrofit prop shaft seal… So far so good!
So now I’ll retrofit the leaky one!
