Just yesterday I acquired a 1950 Johnson qd. It seems the coil coating has melted and ran down everywhere and is as hard as a rock. Question #1- what will remove it without too much damage to the paint. #2- since this is the old ignition system can I take a universal ignition system, including the armature plate and just install it ? And if the answer is no, how do I get this ignition going again?  Thanks !

Yup that old girl has the push rod points.  I have a complete coil backing plate that ohm’s out good.  PM me and I will send it to you.  I have a few other parts so if there is anything you need let me know and I will check my stash.
